Both, our team is divided between MAC lovers and PC diehards. Depends on who does what, you will not get a neutral computer user, either it’s Team Apple or Team PC. Why must we choose between the two? I am a happy user of both, PC’s are great for office and everyday applications…because it has a monstrous selection of applications and choices. MAC’s are aesthitically pleasing to look at, functions beautifully and is more suited to a designers needs…so I ask, must I choose or can we just love both.
What’s hot right now? Owls! Yes, owls in all shapes, colors, variations and translated into T’s, laptop bags, pillows, plush, jewelry, dishware and even luggage. Everywhere I’ve look while attending the shows this season, designers are paying respect to the iconic nocturnal bird. Maybe I’ll go back and get on the “owl” wagon and design a Color Zoo version.
What’s New at Allen Ave. Design Studio?
I’m obsessed with “Rag Dolls” as of late and have been slowly collecting all forms of this lovely creation. Rag dolls are as unique as their designer and of its owner. Many are handmade and have been treasured and passed down from grandmothers to mothers and on to daughters. Some designs are simple while others are made with the most beautiful fabrics and embelishments. As a tribute to my own doll given to me by my mother, we are hard at work making our own collection to which we hope will be loved and treasured by a new generation of girls.
Great design has no expiration date and outlast trends. One June 17th, 1907 an American designer was born. He worked together with his wife Ray for most of his life and made a tremendous mark in design history. Both their legacy contains many classic, iconic designs of the 20th century. If you are a fan of design furniture you probably already guessed that I am talking about Charles and Ray Eames. The following is my tribute to this amazing partnership that has captivated many generations of designers.
It’s funny. You read and read about the state of the economy and how advertising is down, magazines are hurting and subscriptions are low. After all these problems I still get call after call from small and medium magazine for “Specials”. $2000 specials. They tell you it’s one day only and regular price is $4000. How can these publications stay in business when they do no adjust prices ? $2000 for half a page in a small magazine is not affordable for most companies with this economy. When publications adjust to the economy, maybe advertising revenue will grow back.
